NOTE: Per CMS, New Jersey TNAs have until April 5, 2023, or the end of the federal Public Health Emergency, whichever comes first, to successfully complete both the skills and written/oral exams IF the New Jersey Department of Health CNA Program has determined that the TNAs meet the requirements. The requirements are:

1. By January 11, 2022, the individual completed and passed the 8-hour Temporary Nurse Aide Training Program sponsored by the American Health Care Association and the National Center for Assisted Living program and demonstrated competency using the program’s skills competency checklist; AND
2. Between April 14, 2020 and January 11, 2022 The TNA worked a minimum of 80 hours under the direction of a licensed professional nurse; AND
3. The Director of Nursing attests to the TNA’s competence; AND
4. The TNA successfully completes the criminal background investigation required by N.J.S.A. 26:2H-84.
